Political Lipstick Debate Empty Political Lipstick Debate

Post by Kyouri Kai Wed 10 Sep 2008, 12:39 pm

As if things weren't already bad enough with kids abusing each other over words... especially in high school... now we have grown ass adults doing the same thing?

During her acceptance speech as Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin made the comment.. "The only difference between a Hockey mom and a pit bull is lipstick." And yes, she was referring to herself, so no harm done.

Presidential nominee, Barack Obama made a comment yesterday.. "You can put lipstick on a pig ... it's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."

So of course, the McCain campaign had to place an internet ad saying that Obama directly attacked Palin and that he started a smear campaign (another lipstick reference??? lol). And of course, so as not to be outdone, Obama comes back with, "What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that has made people sick and tired of politics in this country. They seize on an innocent remark, try to take it out of context, throw up an outrageous ad because they know that it's catnip for the news media."

When are all of these people going to grow up?

Yes, what Obama said about the lipstick was a direct link to what Palin said. He could have used any other metaphor but chose one already used by the other party... 'lipstick'.

Yes, the McCain camp went overboard and started demanding an apology just in an effort to smear Obama back.

Obama is right... these kind of antics are definitely fodder for the news media. But it seems both sides are enjoying watching the cats get high on their cat-nip.

They were both wrong! And it isn't just the Republicans taking things out of context, dear Obama.. the Dems have been doing it for years, too.. and your campaign is no exception. To all the candidates... Grow up!!! So far.. my vote is for no one!

Lol I was just reading about this and I thought to myself "OMG, let the cat fight begin." Seriously though Obama is right, the people are sick and tired of these antics but at the same time it's seemingly what fuels peoples interest in the world of politics.

I look at it this way people have attention spans that last for only nanoseconds, in the world of politics a majority of the people wouldn't take interest because it would bore them, they need drama to keep them involved, they won't talk about the issues because it's uninteresting so they'll talk about what canidate A said about Canidate B. That is why the media focuses on these types of battles, it's because it's what draws the viewers in, regardless of whether we're sick and tired of these antics, we're also drawn into them as well.

So while Obama is speaking the truth on some portions he is also playing the game at the same time, whether he thinks he is or not, all the politicial figures play the media game to be successful, I can't think of one political figurehead that hasn't played the game and been successful.

While I agree that the immaturity of humans has been enthralled by drama, it has become clear that they are extremely tired of it... finally. After the Dems started trying to bash Palin as soon as she was chosen, due to their not knowing anything about her, the percentages for McCain started jumping. People are tired of it. And if the candidates truly wish to prove 'change', then they both need to stop utilizing the media to bash their opponent over the head, or viewers will start tuning out and letting their attention go elsewhere.

And yes... Obama is no better than McCain who is no better than Obama..etc. I really don't want to see another 'politics as usual' fiasco this year.
