I agree with you in part, life is suffering. But we do not necessarilly need to give up our own happiness to make someone else happy. I often increase my happiness by sharing it with others. As to the purpose of life, that is impossible to know...

lol....at times it seems that way......but there's often an actual loss where someone does feel pain....it's just not direct sometimes......oftentimes it's indirect....and the pain may be very small and therefore, even that person may not realize it.....

for kito...it's just like a T-account....for every Debit (happiness) there must be a Credit of equal value (sadness/pain.suffering)

My personal belief is that happiness is just lessened suffering. If you walk around in the dead of winter, then stick your hand in the fridge, you will feel warm, even though you are still cold. I think that we are constantly suffering, and that this feeling called "happiness" is produced when our suffering is slightly and temporarily alleviated.

so life is just a path filled with sorrow and pain and suffering that eventually leads us to a place where none of that exists.......

Unless the Freudian psychologists are right, and we just dream forever after we die... That would suck.
