He even meets the token hot-but-unattainable girl. Determined to enjoy his almost postcard-perfect new life, Jason tries to ignore the many strange things going down in DeVere Heights.
But then a girl washes up dead the morning after one off-the-hook-party and with no explanation but a suspicious-looking bite mark. Now Jason has to admit what you don't want to know CAN hurt you." (Back of the book intro)
If I had to sum up the book in 5 words it would be "The O.C. but with Vampires" (O.C. It was a TV drama aired in 2003, which takes place in California n deals with school/teen drama).
I am sure you are wondering "How could there be vampires be in California? Wouldn't they be destroyed by the sun? Why are they in high school?" all of which are good questions and the answers where explained in the book. Well the vampires in this book have evolved and are no longer having any harmful/deadly effects from the sunlight. They live in California for the beach, the surf, and the parties!
Vampire beach has both pro's n con's in my opinion, It’s a good cause it was an really good read, once I book I didn't want to put it down. Although I didn't like how the book jumped around from subject to subject.
Example, The author (Alex Duval) would talk about how Jason (The Protagonist) arrived at school and dreaded being there, than he just jumped to swim practice. I liked how the author didn't make the "High school" into the stereo-typical version than many others used, where the popular kids are stuck up n self-centered where they don't associate with anyone outside their click. He made them the opposite in fact, friendly with everyone and always looking for a good an excuse to have fun.
I liked the way Duval set up his vampires, they have their own laws where it is absolutely forbidden to kill anyone you feed from and (I'm sure you were wondering, how they feed) the through amazing parties and while their peers are in a drunken stupor to make out n feed on them. I didn't like how Duval uses a common plot, where the new kid moves into town, meets a mega hot girl who, of course, already has a boyfriend. Despite being the new kid, he seems to naturally fit in with the popular crowd. It is true that Duval adds his on twists which turn out amazing but I have read too many books and it is just mundane.
Overall this blood lust was an amazing book, I would recommend to anyone who likes supernatural books, but far warning. By reading Blood Lust it will make you want to read the next book in the series, Initiation.
